InterConnect Revolutionizes Smart Energy Management Across Europe: Unveiling Breakthroughs in Digitalization and IoT Integration

February 1, 2024

In a groundbreaking collaboration, InterConnect has brought together 50 entities from across Europe to pioneer innovative solutions that bridge the gap between homes, buildings, and the electricity sector. The project, spanning 11 countries with contributions from both government and private sectors, lays the groundwork for the future of smart energy management solutions.

Summary of the InterConnect consortium. 7 Pilots in 11 countries and 50 partners.

InterConnect has established seven large-scale test sites in Portugal, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, and France. This ambitious initiative showcases the potential of digitalizing homes, buildings, and electric grids through a robust Internet of Things (IoT) architecture. With 50 partners on board, including Inetum, InterConnect is shaping the future of energy management on a grand scale.

The Greek Pilot: Demonstrating the Power of Demand-Side Flexibility and IoT-Assisted Energy Management

In the recently published white paper, InterConnect shines a spotlight on the Greek pilot, which serves as a proving ground for cutting-edge technologies and services. The pilot includes:

– Demonstration of Demand-Side Flexibility services involving active community participation in energy markets.

– Showcase of IoT-assisted energy management, flexibility, and interoperability across a diverse range of technologies.

– Implementation of home comfort automation services, integrating non-energy sensors for enhanced monitoring.

– Energy demand predictions and recommendations, optimizing decision-making processes and forecasting energy consumption.

– Active engagement of residential end-users through mobile apps and incentives, fostering a deeper understanding of energy consumption behavior.

Technological advancements and infrastructural improvements with the installation of real-time power meters in 200 houses and the conversion of 70 households into smart homes, equipped with state-of-the-art solutions from GRIDNET and COSMOTE.

The French Pilot: Transforming Toulon Provence Méditerranée into a Smart Metropolis

Located in the vibrant metropolis of Toulon Provence Méditerranée, the French pilot is focused on achieving two key objectives:

1. Maximizing self-consumption of locally produced renewable energies by piloting electrical equipment consumption during periods of local renewable energy production.

2. Reducing the cost of electricity consumption by intelligently scheduling equipment use during optimal periods based on dynamic tariffs.

3. Public buildings that are included in the overreaching pilot, with detailed data enable the development of user-friendly applications that can help consumers manage their energy use more efficiently. And the development of an end-user interface.

The project has successfully implemented these objectives in 158 households, 12 public buildings, including several schools in the Toulon Provence Méditerranée metropolitan area.

Harnessing the Power of Artificial Intelligence for Energy Savings

In this InterConnect white paper, we showcase the details of the artificial intelligence algorithm deployed in the project. This advanced algorithm plays a crucial role in forecasting energy consumption, ultimately contributing to significant energy savings for end-users.

InterConnect’s achievements in providing smart energy management, digitalization, and IoT integration underscore its pivotal role in shaping the future of the energy sector across Europe.

Scalable Cloud Solutions for Future-Proof Architecture

Highlighting its commitment to scalability, we show in this white paper how InterConnect incorporates cloud computing  infrastructure to ensure the solution architecture is ready for future demands. This strategic use of cloud technology not only enhances the project’s flexibility but also positions it to adapt and grow in tandem with the evolving landscape of smart energy solutions.

As the project continues to unfold, the results presented in the white paper offer a glimpse into the transformative impact of InterConnect on the landscape of energy efficiency and sustainability
