The inhabitants of Moneta, Milan, were offered a washing machine and asked to participate in the activities of the pilot, by signing a contract manifesting their willingness to be part of the initiative.
The participants will have to download the Hotpoint Ariston Home Net App to connect the washing machine and trigger a digital communication with the Planet App. The end users will be asked to choose the washing program and preferred running time one day in advance and allow Planet Idea to remotely monitor and reprogram the washing cycle at a more convenient time.
Planet Idea will operate by acquiring the electrical grid status and constraints by RSE and, leveraging on the granularity of the engaged power planned, will redistribute the power load over time, through an energy management proprietary algorithm, ad hoc developed.
The objective is to evaluate the ability to shift a planned energy consumption over time to be capable to support the energy grid constraints, by fostering ancillary services, thus avoiding unnecessary retrofitting of the distribution network (cables, transformer, etc..).
By using the app, participants will be able to optimize their energy daily consumption, while the distribution system operator will experiment an energy flexibility service.
More activities are being planned. About 130 housing units are expected to participate in the pilot activities, which should end in September 2023.
The goals of the pilot are to test and demonstrate an interoperable Home Energy Management System for domestic apartments, involving different manufacturers of home appliances; to demonstrate the interoperability and data exchange between systems and devices through the Planet App; to exploit different energy and non-energy services, including flexibility services for grid support; and to test digital services for grid.
The Italian Pilot is leaded by Planet Idea, in partnership with Whirlpool and RSE.
