R&D and consultancy

The Institute of Communication Technology and Applied Signal Processing (ICAS) at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Fh-Dortmund) was established in 2002 and is the leading member of the competence center for Communication Technology and Applied Signal Processing of North-Rhine Westfalia. Since it was found Prof. Dr. Ingo Kunold is head of the institute. The main fields of R&D at the ICAS are internet-based communication and IoT systems, services and protocols. Applications are in the field of monitoring and control of energy management, digital signal processing and data analytics, distributed systems and services for energy and smart homes/buildings. Condition repositories with semantic web data representation and protocols are in the scope of R&D regarding to AI.

Currently 6 professors, 13 researchers and several students are working on different research projects on the mentioned topics. The ICAS works with partner companies from the energy sector like energy supplier and metering vendors, as well as companies from the home automation industry and brings its experiences on field tests, use case-based development and testing to the consortium.
