In the Belgium city of Oud-Heverlee, the InterConnect project will deploy new solutions in four buildings of the Local Energy Community.

This pilot objectives are the following:

  • Demonstrate the effective multi-asset flexibility in a community of tertiary buildings with the same owner.
  • Increase comfort, minimize energy consumption, aggregate self-consumption, peak shaving, demand response and demand charge management for minimizing the electricity bill in conjunction with maximizing the flexibility provision to the grid (DSO and energy supplier), providing new revenue streams for the community owner.
  • Deploy interoperability between three platforms: HVAC control, battery and EV control and PV/building and forecasting.
  • Deliver an interface for the user’s setting and preferences as well monitoring of energy consumption.

Technologies & Infrastructure

The site is a free field PV system test area with two buildings office + lab equipped with heat pumps. It is connected to 3-phase 400V grid located in Obing, Germany where they can also sell the power to the grid. The consumption is around 4000kWh per year while it is expected to increase soon. Extending SynaptiQ platform to support interoperable flexibility usage for local energy management and for offering the flexibility to a distribution grid through aggregators. With these paradigm shifts:

  • from off-line data to real-time data​
  • From manual policies to dynamic policies​
  • From no control to dynamic control

 The 3E SynaptiQ digital platform will enable new revenue streams for energy communities by interconnecting existing digital platforms offering interoperable services (monitoring, forecasting scheduling, trading, and real-time control) and overarching aggregator provided by CyberGRID
