The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft promotes and conducts applied research to benefit private and public enterprises and is an asset to society as a whole. Fraunhofer IEE (Institute for Energy Economics and Energy Systems Technology) in Kassel addresses applications-oriented research in the field of electrical engineering and systems technology for energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies. The spectrum covered ranges from theoretical investigations over experimental studies and field tests through to the development of devices and systems. IEE activities concentrate on wind energy, photovoltaic, bioenergy, hydropower and marine energies, energy conversion and storage, static converters, hybrid systems, and energy economy. Specialized professional competencies include especially power electronics, control engineering, process engineering, and information systems. Together with industry and utilities IEE plans, develops and tests power systems, power conditioning, control and energy management of power supply components and electricity grids. The laboratory equipment allows us to carry out standardized equipment tests and tests in sections of distribution networks using new information and communication systems.
