1st General Assembly of the InterConnect project

The 1st General Assembly of the InterConnect project took place in an entirely virtual mode, on October 13th. The 50 partners of the project were present in the event, which aimed at presenting the main achievements of the first year of the project and the next steps.

The session has been organised by the project leader, INESC TEC. All work package leaders have presented the objectives, progress and status of the activities they are conducting, except the ones who have not yet initiated their work, that have instead focused on presenting the strategy they will pursue.

The first WP – Use Cases, Business Models and Services –, led by EEBUS, has presented the results achieved in the first year of the project in the identification of each ecosystem context, the personas, needs and ideas and also the user stories and services concepts per pilot. This WP is now working on the process of harmonization of each High-Level Use Case per pilot, before moving on to the definition of business and technical use cases per pilot.

The second WP – Domain interoperable IoT Reference Architecture -, led by TNO, presented the current “global smart home and smart building IoT reference architecture” approach that will be used by the project, the “smart energy reference architecture”, the work that is being developed in practice for security and privacy policy compliance, and the semantic interoperability framework. The work that has been developed in this WP is closely linked with the activities being conducted in WP5 and the ones that involve the pilot leaders.

WP3 – Semantically Interoperable Components, Applications, and Devices for Smart Homes and Buildings – led by VITO, has only started in month nine of the project. However, activities such as the definition of service catalogues, the organisation of workshops, among others, are already ongoing.

WP5 – Digital platforms and marketplace -, led by Vizlore, has been carrying out a detailed analysis of the available digital platforms and services and their interoperability capabilities and requirements to work on a catalogue of available digital platforms. Moreover, the technical architecture for the interoperability framework has been set. The next steps will focus on working on the required interoperability adapters for participating platforms, services and systems, providing the concept for the service-store repository where the services will be made available across devices and platforms and producing a data flow management plan.

WP9 – Sustainability of the InterConnect Project -, led by WINGS ICT solutions, has already worked on the standards and regulatory bodies impact and has achieved the first step on identifying the target bodies for standards and regulation, which is an important step for ensuring the sustainability of the project. More than 22 standardization groups and initiatives, in six major bodies, have been identified for strengthening the impact of the project to a wider community.

WP4 – Smart Grids Framework for an Interoperable Energy System -, led by EDPD, WP6 – Preparation, Coordination and Monitoring of Pilots -, led by Th!nk-E, WP7 – Large-scale demonstration and integration of solutions -, led by INESC TEC, and WP8 – Fostering Innovation through Bottom-up projects – led by FundingBox, have presented their objectives and strategy, since their activities are yet to start.

Finally, WP10 – Communication, Dissemination and Exploitation of the project -, led by INESC TEC, has presented the 486 dissemination outcomes that have been achieved in the first year of the project, the results of one of the communication campaigns already developed, the 47 exploitable plans that have already been collected and the cooperation that the project has with relevant European initiatives, such as BRIDGE or OPEN-DEI.
