Dutch pilot promotes GDPR session to strengthen data security practices
The Dutch pilot prepared a “lessons learned” session regarding General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance during the pilot focusing on the use of SmartHome technologies (IoT) in the residential pilot. The session brought together several members of the InterConnect consortium.
The online session was conducted by Ronnie Groenewold, Innovation Manager of iCity, Remy Van den Boon, Data Protecion Officer of TNO, and Mirjam de Vaal, Privacy Officer of VolkerWessels. The objective? Promote a privacy-conscious approach, strengthen data security practices, and contribute to the responsible and lawful handling of personal data in similar initiatives.
Additionally, as the InterConnect pilot involves processing the residents’ personal data, the session identified potential vulnerabilities and weaknesses in data security measures.
“By reflecting on the Dutch pilot’s experiences and outcomes, the GDPR session facilitates continuous improvement. It encourages InterConnect partners to identify areas for enhancement, refine existing processes, and implement necessary changes to ensure ongoing compliance with data protection regulations”, reads a one-pager composed by the pilot.
The organizers highlight that “GDPR is a crucial legal framework for protecting individuals’ privacy rights and ensuring the lawful handling of personal data”: “Conducting a session specifically focused on GDPR helps ensure compliance with these regulations and prevents any potential data breaches or privacy violations in other InterConnect pilots”.
